Conversion of a conventional IC Engine based Scooter into an Electric one at a reasonable cost and achieving a good performance with good kWh/km ratio, has indeed become a reality in today’s fast changing scenario of energy shortages & rising fuel prices.
EV rides result in a significantly lower average travelling cost (Appx. Re. 0.4 / km to 0.60 /km,) assuming that the price for the energy of Rs. 6.50 to Rs. 10/kWh [based on commercial Electricity tariff from Electric Power Supply Cos.]. This results in considerable savings as compared to the cost of operation of a petrol driven scooter @ Rs. 2.50 / km (for a 40 km per litre mileage @ Rs.100/litre) to the extent of almost 4-5 times.
Thus for an average usage of 10,000 km per year, the rider would end up saving a whopping Rs. 100,000/- (or even more) across a 4-year period factoring minimal maintenance costs and excluding the fluctuations in price of petrol over this period.
